A Silhouette Soft thread lift is a cutting-edge treatment that offers many of the benefits of a facelift without cosmetic surgery. With a Silhouette Soft thread lift, there are no incisions and no general anaesthetic or sedation. Instead, we use strategically-placed sutures under your skin to lift your face at the right points for an immediate and discreet result.
The dual action of the Silhouette Soft thread lift means that, as well as the instant lift, the biodegradable cones that we position under your skin to hold the sutures in place stimulate collagen production, so that your skin’s volume and elasticity continue to improve for up to 18 months.
A Silhouette Soft thread lift can only be performed by a suitably qualified and trained doctor or a registered medical professional.
A Silhouette Soft thread lift is ideal if you have minimal sagging but feel that gravity is pulling down your face and ageing your appearance. This popular treatment requires minimal downtime and offers excellent results. There is no scarring, no general anaesthetic and it is far more affordable than a surgical facelift.
With a Silhouette Soft thread lift we position surgical sutures at carefully targeted points approximately 3-5mm under your skin using a fine needle. The sutures are held in place by biocompatible and biodegradable cones. These sutures pull your skin up to give your face an immediate lift.
An ongoing benefit of the Silhouette Soft thread lift is that your body recognises the thread and cones as foreign objects, which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin around each cone as part of the healing process. In turn, this tightens the skin of your face, making it look lifted, full of youthful volume and with fewer lines and wrinkles.
As with a traditional facelift, a Silhouette Soft thread lift can help to lift the entire face. It is particularly effective as a treatment to contour and add definition to the lower jaw, cheeks, eyebrows and neck.
You should notice an immediate improvement to your appearance, which will continue over several months as your body produces new collagen.
Every person is different and how long the results of your Silhouette Soft thread lift last will depend on factors such as your age and the degree of sagging we have corrected. As a rule of thumb, most people see an improvement in their appearance for up to 18 months. It is possible to have a top-up treatment with additional threads to extend the benefits of the thread lift.
The sutures and cones used in a Silhouette Soft thread lift are made from polylactic acid (PLA), a polymer that has been used for surgical sutures for many years, particularly in heart surgery. The threads are well tolerated, strong and breakdown naturally over time.
In the hands of an experienced and highly trained practitioner, the Silhouette Soft thread lift has an excellent safety record. The procedure is approved by MHRA in the UK and the FDA in the USA for restoration and/or correction of facial skin laxity.
Polylactic acid has been used successfully in surgical sutures and orthopaedic pins, bone plates and screws for more than 40 years and is biodegradable and biocompatible. No allergic reactions to Silhouette Soft thread lifts have been reported in clinical trials but this treatment is not recommended if you are sensitive or allergic to biomaterials.
Minor side effects of this treatment include bruising, swelling, tenderness, numbness and slight asymmetry, although most will resolve within a couple of days. Complications are rare, and are less likely in the hands of a skilled and trained cosmetic practitioner.
Naturally, we will explain all the pros and cons of this treatment with you before you decide whether to go ahead with it.
Most patients who choose a Silhouette Soft thread lift are in their 30s or older, as this treatment is ideal if you have mild to moderate sagging. It would not be recommended for someone in their 20s. Clinical studies have shown the Silhouette Soft thread lift to be suitable for all skin types.
