Microdermabrasion Treatment Clinic

Microdermabrasion Treatment Clinic

Microdermabrasion is a very effective treatment for giving you a fresh, young-looking glow to your skin. It is one of the most popular treatments that can transform your complexion, giving you a new found radiance. Mircordermabrasion is a non-invasive treatment with no downtime. It can help with many different skin issues such as fine lines, acne scars, uneven pigmentaiton, clogged and enlarged pores as well as uneven skin texture.

Microdermabrasion is a method of deep exfoliation that refines the skin using special medical grade polished crystals. Microdermabrasion speeds up the process by which your skin cells produce new collagen and elastin which enables your skin to naturally appear more youthful. It has been used for over 30 years to treat wrinkles & fine lines as part of an anti-ageing programme.

At The London Dermatology CentreTM we have achieved excellent results using highest quality, medical grade Microdermabrasion machines available on the market. All treatments will be carried out by a highly trained doctor who specialises in carrying out cosmetic procedures.

How does Microdermabrasion work?

Microdermabrasion is a very effective treatment for giving you fresher, younger looking skin. It is used to improve the appearance of fine lines, black heads, acne scars, stretch marks, age pots, large pores, pigmentation and sun damage. Microdermabrasion is a method of deep exfoliation through the application of special medical grade crystals (aluminum oxide crystals). These tiny crystals are used to buff away the top surface layer of skin. The very top layer of skin is made up of dead skin cells and underneath it is a layer of fresh, maturing skin. This dead layer of skin cells is the home of several minor skin imperfections such as fine wrinkles and acne scarring. The special crystals used in the microdermabrasion procedure break down the very top layer of skin stimulating the production of new collagen and exposing the newer, healthier skin below.

During the microdermabrasion procedure a special tool is used to shoot a stream of tiny crystals at the skin and at the same time the vacuum in the tool head sucks away the used crystals and the dead skin. The vacuum pulls a small section of skin to be worked on towards the tool and brings many of the impurities closer to skin’s surface making them easier to remove.

As the dead top layer of skin has been removed, the skin is temporarily much better at absorbing topical lotions. Many patients therefore use this opportunity to combine the microdermabrasion treatment with the application of a Hydrating Vitamin Serum that will be optimally absorbed. The serum applied will be delivered deep within the skin, delivering antioxidant protection, an extra boost to collagen production and some essential hydration.

What skin conditions can Microdermabrasion be used for?

Microdermabrasion can be used to significantly improve fine lines, black heads, acne scars, stretch marks, age spots, enlarged pores, pigmentation and sun damage. It can help to improve the texture of skin and may also benefit patients with rosacea. Many patients have microdermabrasion to help rejuvenate their skin or before an event to look their best.

Is Microdermabrasion painful?

Microdermabrasion is not a painful treatment and you will not require any anaesthetic. Though it is not painful, as the crystals buff away the dead layer of skin you may feel a slight warm sensation across your skin. Many patients associate the feeling of microdermabrasion with that of massage.

What happens after the Microdermabrasion procedure?

After the microdermabrasion treatment you will be left with a fresh new layer of skin. This skin may be more sensitive to the sun and will require a sunblock. Moisturising creams can also be used to calm the skin and keep it hydrated.

As the dead top layer of your skin has been removed, this will be the perfect time to apply a Hydrating Vitamin Serum that will be absorbed optimally. Your doctor can also use prescription only Retinoid Cream that will increase Collagen production in your skin. Many people have the procedure at 4pm and are out at a dinner party or the theatre at 6pm looking their best.

Why should I have Microdermabrasion at a Dermatology Clinic by a highly trained doctor rather than by a Beauty Therapist or a Trained Nurse?

The Doctor who sees you will first take a comprehensive medical history to ensure that you are suitable for this procedure & explain the benefits. The doctor will also take detailed two-dimensional images of your face using the Visia Facial Analysis System. After 8 weeks repeat images will be taken to show you the improvements to the structure and appearance of your skin. The Doctor can also use prescription only medications to improve your skin.

What can Micro-dermabrasion do for your skin?

Micro-dermabrasion is a great treatment for improving fine lines, black heads, acne scars and smoothing the skin. It does this by removing dead skin cells and delivering an intense exfoliation to the skin, with no need for down time.

It can also help to brighten and refresh your complexion, even out your skin tone and generally help your skin look healthier and more radiant.

It can be used on any part of the skin but has the best results when used on the face.

Is Micro-dermabrasion the best option for me?

Microdermabrasion is ideal for anyone who wants to refresh and rejuvenate their complexion, without undergoing laser therapy.

It’s a great way to improve your complexion, in a very non-invasive treatment. It is best for those who wish to brighten, smooth and even out their skin.

It can also help to unclog pores, offering a deep clean to remove dead skin cells and dirt, helping to prevent blemishes and breakouts.

It can be particularly effective for those who want to rejuvenate their complexion before a special occasion, in a similar way to a facial. This is more intense than a spa facial, as it uses medical grade crystals to provide a deep exfoliation of the skin.

If you have any particular concerns, such as acne scars or hyperpigmentation, you may wish to choose another type of treatment, that is more targeted towards this result. You can book an appointment with a dermatologist to discuss your options, or feel free to contact our team, for advice on what the best treatment might be for your specific goals.
